Thank you for choosing FlexTerm. This users manual is meant to help you get to know FlexTerm better. It is also a reference guide for experienced users with questions about different facets of FlexTerm.
FlexTerm, formerly known as FlexSim CT, is a simulation package specifically designed for simulating container terminal operations. FlexTerm is built on top of the general event simulation software FlexSim, and provides additional objects and functionalities to facilitate simulating and analyzing operations for both conventional and automated container terminals. With FlexTerm, container terminal simulation models can be built quickly and easily in a familiar Windows Graphic User Interface (GUI). FlexTerm also allows users to build customized model logics using user-defined parameters as well as Application Programming Interfaces (API).
Simulation models built in FlexTerm can be used to improve many facets of a container terminal operation. In general, FlexTerm helps in your goals to:
\- Increase throughput
\- Improve equipment utilization
\- Reduce waiting time and queue sizes
\- Reduce bottlenecks
\- Balance workload by allocating resources efficiently
\- Compare alternate investment ideas
\- Demonstrate new tool design capabilities
\- Train operators in overall system behavior and job-related performance
More specifically, with FlexTerm you can analyze many aspects of your terminal. Examples are:
\- Yard stacking and segregation strategies
\- Yard layout and dispatching
\- Gate logistics and capacity
\- Quay crane allocation
\- Yard equipment allocation
\- Hostler gang allocation
\- Ship scheduling
\- Berth assignment
\- Traffic constraints
