To help you get started, this step-by-step list guides you through聽recommended procedures for setting up a FlexTerm model. Following the links will take you to other areas of the FlexTerm Users Manual where you can learn more about that topic. As with any model, you will likely need to return to various parts of the model to fine tune it; these steps are merely an outline to get you started.
There are four major portions of FlexTerm: a yard, a berth, a gate and a rail. You can model any or all of these areas. In the guide below, the berth, gate, and rail areas are listed as optional, but you need to include at least one of these in a model. For further information on this subject, please read the [FlexTerm modeling paradigm](Container_Terminal_Modeling_Overview.html).
Step-by-Step Explanation
1. Establish the [model units](Model_Units.html).
2. Create the [container types](Container_Types.html)you will use in your model.
3. Import a [background](Background.html) image.\*
4. Add a [Berth Planner](Berth_Planner_Overview.html)and complete it.\*
5. Set up the yard with [yard blocks](YardBlock.html),聽[wheeled blocks](WheeledBlock.html)\*,聽[truck gangs](CraneGang.html)\*,聽聽[RTGs](RTG.html)\*,聽[top loaders](TopLoader.html)\*, etc.
6. Create the yard road structure using [network nodes](NetworkNode.html).\*
7. Open the [Yard Planner](Yard_Planner_Overview.html)and complete it.
8. Add a [Gate Planner](Gate_Planner_Overview.html)and complete it.\* Then set up the gate with聽[roads](Road.html)\*,聽[gate processes](GateProcess.html)\*,聽[truck queues](TruckQueue.html)\*, [gate to yard](GateToYard.html), [yard to gate](YardToGate.html) and a [gate sink](GateSink.html).
9. Adjust the [Yard Planner](Yard_Planner_Overview.html)for the gate if needed.
10. Add a Rail area and supporting road structure.\*
11. Add a rail planner. Adjust the [Rail Planner](Rail_Planner_Overview.html) for the rail as needed. This includes setting up the [rail area](Tracks.html) with [rail blocks](Rail_Block.html), adding [rail cars](Car_Profiles.html), [train schedule](Train_Schedule.html), specifying [truck gangs](CraneGang.html)working for rail, and defining [working strategies](Work_Strategies.html).
