The Yard Moves tab page is used to schedule internal yard move operations. This type of operation is typically called聽"Housekeeping" or "Relocation" in container terminal operations. The Yard Moves tab can be used to create two types of internal yard operations: a relocate operation and a consolidate operation. A relocate operation moves containers from one block/area to another. A consolidate operation is used to combine same-type containers into the same bay within a block. The yard operations are as follows:
- Relocate- This operation is used to move containers within the yard from one block or area to another. You can use this operation to service ships even faster. You can unload containers quickly by stacking them in a block close to the bay. Later, you can relocate the containers to other areas of the yard for longer storage or in preparation for going out through the gate or via rail. Similarly, you can use a relocate operation to gather containers for a ship that is arriving soon into a block close to the bay so the ship can be loaded faster. This operation can be used in FlexTerm to analyze the potential cost savings versus the operation costs.
- Consolidate- This operation is used to tidy up a block. As containers arrive at and leave the block, container types can become scattered across the block, making it difficult to keep bays fully segregated. You can use this operation to gather containers of the same type into the same bay. For example, this can help a RTG service a series of unstacking operations faster, since the containers are co-located. This also clears up room in the block for other container types to be placed and create their own segregated bays.
In Yard Moves, Relocate and Cosolidate are achieved by specifying the From Block and To Block fields of the table. If From Block is equal to To Block, it is a Consolidate operation. Otherwise, it is a Relocate operation.

To create new yard move operations, click the "Add Move" button. A row will be added into the table. Each row of this table defines one scheduled yard move operation. A set of parameters can be defined for each yard move operation. These parameters define the criteria of the operation as well as how to do the operation.
The parameters for defining the criteria of the yard move operations are as follows:
- From Time - This value is the start time of the yard move operation. It can be changed through the drop down boxes.
- To Time - This value is the end time of the yard operation. It can be changed through the drop down boxes. If the yard operation has not finished by the specified time, it is forced to stop so that yard resources are made available for other tasks. This value applies to the unstack portion of the yard move operation. That means if the container has already been unstacked for a yard move operation, the container will be stacked to the destination block even if the time passes the To Time. In addition, if the container to be relocated will be moved out of Yard soon (<1 hour) according to its dwell time, the container will not be relocated by yard move operations.
- Container Profile - This is a set of parameters to be selected to define what kind of containers are to be relocated. The parameters can be chosen through the drop down menu, as shown in the figure below. The container profile includes: Container Type, Size, Equipment Type, Origin, and Destination. Only the containers that match the selected container profile will be candidates for the yard move operation.

- Custom - This value is code that you write that returns either a 1, indicating the rule matches, or a 0, indicating the rule doesn't match. Type code directly into the edit box.
- Segregation - This is the segregation criteria for a bay or a cell of the block to be matched for the yard move operation. Only containers in those bays or cells matching the specified segregation criteria will be relocated. For the definition of the segregation terms, please refer to [Container Placement](Container_Placement.html).

The parameters for defining how to do the yard move operations are as follows:
- From Block - The block or area that the containers for the yard move operation will be unstacked from.
- To Block - The block or area that the containers for the yard move operation will be stacked to. Note that "To Block" can be the same as "From Block" to make the yard move operation be a Consolidate operation.
- Strategy聽- The container placement strategy to be used when stacking the containers onto the destination block.
- Transport - This value is the yard resource that will transport the containers from one location to another. Typically a [truck gang](CraneGang.html) is selected here. For short distances a [top loader](TopLoader.html)may make sense as the transport resource. A [RTG](RTG.html) is typically not used as a transport resource since RTGs are usually under warranty to not gantry while holding a container. A RMG can be used as a transport resource if you are relocating containers within a block.
- Unstack- This value is the yard resource that will unstack the container. You may select a specific resource from the drop down box or leave the option blank, which is the same as using the "Default Unstacking Resource." The default resource is chosen by looking at the [Resource Assignments tab](Resource_Assignments.html) to see which resource is assigned to the "From Block."
- Stack- This value is the yard resource that will stack the container. You may select a specific resource from the drop down box or leave the option blank, which is the same as using the "Default Stacking Resource." The default resource is chosen by looking at the [Resource Assignments tab](Resource_Assignments.html) to see which resource is assigned to the "To Block."
