The Areas tab page allows you to define groups of blocks that are designated as areas. Areas do not exist physically, but are logical organizations. Areas can be used in the [Block Assignments rules](Block_Assignments.html) in place of specific blocks, allowing you to simplify your rules table.

Areas List- This list shows the areas that you have defined for your model. To add a new area, click the Add Area button. To delete a selected area, click the Delete Area button. To edit an area, highlight it in the list.
Area Name - This value is the name assigned to the area.
Blocks Selection List - The All Blocks list contains all of the blocks in the model. Use the ![](https://box.kancloud.cn/1cf9b2e6345c2e796140e9da10ae0c09_20x18.jpg) and ![](https://box.kancloud.cn/90311765855b3d0e1819ae88dd4a21dd_20x18.jpg)buttons to add or remove blocks in the area. Blocks in an area are listed in the Area Blocks list. A block may be added to more than one area.
The ordering of blocks in the Area Blocks list is important. When FlexTerm determines that a container should be assigned to an area, it then looks at the blocks in that area in the order listed to decide where to place the container. This can be advantageous, for example, if you want to reduce ship load time by placing exports in the block closest to the berth first. To facilitate this, simply make sure that the closest block is listed first in your "exports" area.
Use a subarea of this block- Check this box to use a subarea of the block rather than the entire block for this area. This checkbox applies to the block selected in the Area Blocks list. Specify the subarea using the values for Min Bay, Max Bay, Min Cell, and Max Cell.
Areas Diagram View

The areas diagram view shows each of the yard blocks in your model and highlights the blocks in the selected area. Similar to [Blocks Diagram View](Blocks.html#blocks_diagram_view) in the Blocks tab, additional information is shown to help users identify blocks and their locations. The informaiton includes block names and a blue crosshair indicating the origin point of the model's coordinate system. This view helps you identify each block so you can make sure each is assigned to the correct area. This view operates like a typical [orthographic view](Flexsim_Users_Manual.html) in that you can zoom and translate the view by using the mouse buttons.
Blocks highlighted in red are members of the selected area.
Blocks highlighted in yellow are the blocks selected in the All Blocks list.
The block highlighted in green is the block selected in the Area Blocks list.
Note: The view may appear blank at first. Try zooming out to locate the blocks. Then center them in the view before zooming in again.
