Overview
The Strad Gang is a group of straddle carriers that move containers around the model. This object allows you to set the number of strads in the gang as well as load/unload times and the speed of the strads.

Cranes serviced by this Gang- This list allows you to associate this gang with cranes. If it is associated with multiple cranes, it will use the Pooling Dispatch Algorithm to determine which crane to service. Cranes become available in the left list when they are added to the berth in the [Berth Layout tab](Berth_Layout.html) of the Berth Planner.
Note: A crane without a gang will simply drop a container onto the ground and it will be teleported into the yard block without any travel delay time.
Max Number of Strads- This value is the number of strads in the gang. To add more strads to the gang click the Add Strad button. To remove trucks from the gang click the Delete Strad button.
Operational Number of Strads- This value is the number of strads that will operate during the model run. You can use this聽for experimenting with different numbers of trucks in different runs. You can also change this value via the Experimenter by looking for this value in the tree.
Maximum Buffer at Quay- This value is the number of transfer slot that can be sitting on the quay at any given time per crane. Each transfer slot can hold one 40' container, one single-lift 20' container or two twin-lift 40' containers. The cranes will unload containers from ships onto the quay to have strads take them away. The strads will drop off containers on the quay to be loaded onto ships by the cranes. This value is the size of the buffer for each crane.
- Total Number of 40' Slots: The maximum buffer number at Quay will be based on total number of 40 feet container slots under the Quay Crane.
- Total Number of Containers: The maximum buffer number of Quay will be based on total number of containers on the ground.
Pooling Dispatch Algorithm- The various options in this dropdown list allows you to customize how strads will be dispatched to different cranes if multiple cranes are serviced by this gang.
Strad onStateChange Trigger -聽This trigger will be fired before a gang strad's current state changes to the next state. The following gang strad states will be passed in a parameter which represents the gang strad's next state.
- STRAD\_STATE\_IDLE: The gang strad's next state is idle state.
- STRAD\_STATE\_WAITING\_AT\_YARD: The gang strad's next state will be waiting at yard side.
- STRAD\_STATE\_WAITING\_AT\_QUAY\_CRANE: The gang strad's next state will be waiting at quay.
- STRAD\_STATE\_WAITING\_AT\_RAIL: The gang strad's next state will be waiting at rail side.
- STRAD\_STATE\_SERVING\_YARD\_CRANE: The gang strad's next state will be serving a yard crane or aother yard resource.
- STRAD\_STATE\_SERVING\_QUAY\_CRANE: The gang strad's next state will be serving a quay crane or another quay resource.
- STRAD\_STATE\_SERVING\_RAIL: The gang strad's next state will be serving a rail resource.
- STRAD\_STATE\_TRAVELING\_WITH\_CONTAINERS: The gang strad's next state will be loaded traveling with containers.
- STRAD\_STATE\_TRAVELING\_EMPTY: The gang strad's next state will be empty traveling without containers.

Work with Transfer Area - If the strad gang dispatch strads pick up or drop off container from transfer area, this checkbox should be checked.
Load Staging Class - This value applies to a load-staging operation. It is the load staging class of transfer areas to bring containers to.
Load Staging Lookahead- This value is the number of containers that the gang will look ahead in the hatch profile it is working on for container load operation so that the load container can be preplaned and moved from yard block to transfer area by gantry crane.
Twin Twenty Capability - This checkbox allows each strad in the gang to be able to carry two, twenty-foot containers at the same time.
Spreader Switch Delay- The delay time that spreader takes to switch from twin-lift mode to single-lift mode or vise versa. For example, a twin-lift strad need to drop off two 20' containers into different transfer areas. It travels to the first transfer area, drops off two containers, spends the switching delay time to switch spreader to single-lift mode,聽lifts the container that should go to the second transfer area, then travels to the second transfer area and drops the container.
Set Spreader Switch Delay -聽By typing values into the edit boxes and clicking Set Spreader Switch Delay, each strad will be updated with the new values.
<a name="Speeds">Speeds</a><a name="Speeds">- These values are the speed, acceleration, and deceleration of the strads. If the acceleration or deceleration values are 0, then the strad will instantly move at top speed or stop completely without any acceleration or deceleration time. Time and length units are determined by the </a>[Model Units window](Model_Units.html).
Set Speeds- Speed values are actually stored on each individual strad. By typing values into the edit boxes and clicking Set Speeds, each strad will be updated with the new values. To set speeds for individual strads, double-click on the strad to open its parameters window.
Load/Unload Times- These expressions are the delay times for load and unload tasks given to the strads. These can be constant values, such as 0.2, or distributions such as triangular(1,5,2).
Set Load/Unload Times- These values are actually stored on each individual strad. By typing values into the edit boxes and clicking Set Load/Unload Times, each strad will be updated with the new values.
Attributes- Lift Height is the highest position that strad's spreader can be lifted. Spreader Lift Threshold is the threshold position that defines when strad can start moving during spreader lifting process. Spreader Drop Percent is the percentage of time spent for spreader dropping movement during strad load/unload operation. For example, a strad tries to load a container from ground, its evaluated load time is 100 seconds (refer to "Set Load/Unload Time"). If the spreader drop percent is 70%, strad will spend 70 seconds to drop its spreader from highest position to the top of container. Then spreader will keep its position for the rest 30 seconds before it actually load the container. Spreader Lift Speed it the speed of spreader lifting.
Set Attributes-聽By typing values into the edit boxes and clicking Set Attributes, each strad will be updated with the new values. To set attributes for individual strads, double-click on the strad to open its parameters window.
