**Step-by-Step Rail Planner**
聽聽[](Blocks.html)聽
There are many options available in the Rail Planner for setting up the rail portion of your model. Many of these options have default values so that you can quickly create a basic model. This topic explains the most basic steps required to complete the Rail Planner.
Step-by-Step Explanation
- Before working with the Rail Planner, begin by creating聽objects in the yard.
- Add a [Yard Block](YardBlock.html), a [Rail Block](Rail_Block.html), and a [Truck Gang](CraneGang.html) to the model.

- On the Block Assignments tab of the Yard Planner, add the block as the first rule, as shown below.

- On the Resource Assignments tab of the Yard Planner, add a new rule and select Direct Move as the resource. (If you were using RTGs, you could set up rules here for which RTG to use at the rail block and which to use at the yard block. For this example, the trucks move the containers without RTGs.)

- Drag the Rail Planner into the model.

- Examine the settings on the Car Profiles and Trains tabs. Default values are already assigned for Car1 and Train1.
- Go to the Train Schedule tab.
- Click and drag trains from the聽Trains list onto the weekly schedule. Position the trains at the times that they should arrive in the model.

- Go to the Work Strategies tab.
- Be sure that the Rail gang referenced in the track work strategy code is the same as the gang you added to the model. The example picture below shows that these are both referenced by the name聽Gang2.
